Umbraco US Fest 2024 Recap

FYIN in Chicago for US Fest

FYIN’s Umbraco pros are no strangers to Umbraco festivals. Various team members have attended Codegarden in Denmark multiple times over the years and have popped up at the Umbraco UK Festival as well. Our founder, David Dimmer, spoke at the event in London a few years ago. Earlier this month, team members from Wisconsin and Colorado headed to Chicago for the annual Umbraco US Festival

As an Umbraco Gold Partner, being part of the wider Umbraco community is important to the FYIN team.  Swapping tips and tricks with other Umbracians is a key part of the experience. The US event wasn’t just for developers, however. Global Umbraco events attract everyone from marketers to end users.

Jason

The two-day Umbraco US Fest featured a partner summit and multiple (technical and non-technical) learning sessions and workshops. One of our senior developers, Jason Thomas, noted that he dove into hands-on sessions like 'Extending the Backoffice in Umbraco 14,' which focused on package development. Like most developers, he likes to get a glimpse “under the hood” and interactive sessions are a big draw.

As Umbraco continues its bold expansion into the US market, the sense of community also grows. As an open-source platform, Umbraco fosters collaboration by allowing community members to submit packages and add-ons for consideration. The camaraderie of the community was on full display in Chicago!

The FYIN team attended presentations and workshops on:

  • uMarketing Suite: This popular package is being rebranded as Umbraco Engage. Umbraco Engage allows end users to get a site up and running quickly and introduces a high level of customization.

  • Editor experience: Any CMS worth its salt has an eye on the editor experience. This session covered ways to make the backoffice more user-friendly and intuitive than ever.

  • Accessibility: ADA compliance in the digital world can feel like a nebulous and confusing endeavor. This session demystified accessibility for technical and non-technical folks alike.

  • SEO: A high-level overview of how to architect a website so that it checks off the SEO boxes that heighten visibility and attract clients.

  • Headless CMS: A viable option for many organizations, this session covered the ins and outs.

Wrapup

Umbraco US Fest had something for everyone with two separate tracks to cover a wide array of interests from tech-heavy workshops to business-focused learning sessions.

First-time festival attendee Steven Curtis (Digital Marketing Team Lead for FYIN’s sister company, Click Mentality) had the opportunity to see firsthand what the Umbraco community is all about. “After attending several sessions and workshops, I was impressed with how passionate and forward-thinking everyone was. Umbraco does a great job of marrying technology and marketing.”

Our US Fest attendees are looking forward to using all they learned in Chicago for FYIN’s upcoming projects!
